Description: We will learn about the lives and teachings of four Korean Zen masters in our lineage, Zen Master Kyong Ho, Man Gong, Ko Bong, and our founding teacher, Zen Master Seung Sahn. Kwan Haeng Sunim JDPS will share his perspective on these eminent masters as a monastic practitioner who lived and trained in Korea for several years. Learning about the important figures in our tradition can inspire our own experiences both on the cushion and in everyday life.

Session One / Zen Master Kyong Ho and Zen Master Man Gong
In this session, Kwan Haeng Sunim will share about Zen Master Kyong Ho and his successor Zen Master Man Gong, who were eminent figures in the 20th century Korean Zen lineage of masters of which the Kwan Um tradition originates from. References will be made from Kyong Ho's Song of Zen and other teachings.

Session Two / Zen Master Ko Bong and Zen Master Seung Sahn
The second session focuses on Zen Master Ko Bong and his disciple, our founding teacher, Zen Master Seung Sahn. We will glean from their teachings and lives as practitioners in their time, how that threads us to this tradition that continues worldwide.

About the Teacher: Kwan Haeng Sunim met Zen Master Seung Sahn at the Cambridge Zen Center in 1986. He ordained as a novice monk in 1998 at Chik Chi Sa, South Korea and in 2003 he received Bhikku precepts at Tong Do Sa, South Korea. He has lived and practiced mainly at Hwa Gye Sa and Mu Sang Sa in Korea where he performed the jobs of Housemaster, Media Director and Head Monk. Kwan Haeng Sunim received inka in December 2020, and he currently teaches and practices at Providence Zen Centre, Rhode Island.
